Speculation on Arwen's Role
John K.

A big question that surrounds the LOTR movie is whether Arwen will join the Fellowship or not. I really hope she doesn't join it, I think thats way too much change in the overall story that would start very early on in it as well. Peter Jackson seems to agree, when answering a fan's question on Ain't It Cool News 20 Question's with Peter Jackson he stated in an answer: " However, we won't do anything radical like adding her to the Fellowship, as that would be departing too much from what we all know and love. It's a fine line that we walk."

What makes a lot of sense to me, is that Arwen would accompany her brothers, Elladan and Elrohir, with the Dunedain Rangers of the North when they meet up with Aragorn. In the book, the meeting takes place after the battle of Helm's Deep in Rohan, but they could add Arwen and have her and her brothers meet Aragorn before the battle of Helm's Deep in the movie. In Liv Tyler's interview on E!Online she tells a little bit about the relationship of Arwen and Aragorn in the movie. While the information isn't definitive whatsoever on the matter of her joining the Fellowship, she does say something in the way that Arwen is impatient and wants to be together with Aragorn much more than they are. It may imply that they have to be away from each other at times in the movie.

There could be two romantic parting scenes, Aragorn leaving Arwen from Rivendell with the Fellowship and Aragorn leaving Arwen after the battle of Helm's Deep for the Paths of the Dead, where he would then triumphantly return. I wouldn't mind something like this kind of change at all.
