Why Arwen Shouldn't Be a Major Character
Ron W.

Arwen was not intended to be a major character in the Lord of the Rings books. Sure, she's important however it wouldn't make sense to the plot and the story line to have her running around all over the place putting herself in unnecessary danger.

In the book, she was considered to be the fairest and noblest female alive next to her grandmother Galadrial. In The Return of The King it is revealed that Aragon lived in Imladris with Elrond and his two sons for twenty years and never heard any mention of Arwen at all. This is because she was like a guarded treasure.

In the Fellowship it Tolkien even says that    "So it was that Frodo saw her whom few mortals had yet seen; Arwen, daughter of Elrond.."
