Does No Bombadil Mean No Barrow-wights?
Dave M.

I have to agree with the posters that feel Tom Bombadil is too weakly drawn a character to include in the movie. However, I have to wonder how Bombadil's absence will affect the plot.

Without Bombadil how will the hobbits escape the barrow-wights? Without the barrow where do they get the sword that eventually will kill the lord of the Nazgul?  The Nazgul-captain's death is a major plot point and the barrow-sword is integral to that.

Even if the whole trip to Bree is glossed over, how will they explain that a hobbit could kill a Nazgul by stabbing him in the foot?

Does anyone know how they propose to portray this?
