The True, Tragic Hero: Frodo

First, I'd like to disagree with Mike B. The question of who is the true hero does not mean who really helped the destruction of the ring, or I'd include even Saruman.

No, the way I see it, what makes a real hero is what he gives up to accomplish his quest, and that's why, even though he failed at the very end, I voted for Frodo. Actually, even though Frodo failed, I don't think ANYONE could have taken the Ring that far, and if he succumbed, it was to a Power too great for any mortal to resist. Frodo gave away his physical and mental health for the benefit of all free people and so to me he is the truest hero of the LOTR.
