Hobbit or Silmarillion?

Now I know that the book of the century has been named as The Lord of the Rings, but we mustn't forget the events leading to that epic classic.

I fear that the public as a whole, those who haven't already read The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and the Silmarillion, will see the movies, think them to be great and only read the Lord of the Rings.

But perhaps if, excuse when, the movies are a successful as we all imagine them to be, they will look towards the Silmarillion and The Hobbit for more movie material. It would be a grave shame to only make a movie about the one, instead of it's history.
