From what I've seen, the casting on the whole seems to be pretty inspired. On the question of Arwen, I myself would have chosen Sophie Marceau, a gifted actress capable of emitting the kind of ethereal beauty and regal honor I associate with the character and not the girlish pouting of Ms Tyler.

Viggo Mortensen however, is perfect as Aragorn, exactly how I pictured the "Ranger who would be King". I only hope, among all the honor and kingly grace, that Viggo also retains Strider's darker side, the loner, the outcast surviving on the fringes of life, fighting, killing, protecting others. This is a multi-layered character that demands the sort of ferocity, passion and tenderness that Viggo excels in portraying.
