I share Mark's concern over who the non-Tolkien-reading public are going to view as LOTR's central character. I got an interesting preview of this tonight while watching the Sky News TV channel (UK). During an entertainment section, they showed the new trailer in its entirety, then at the end the presenter's voice came in to inform the viewers that the film would star "Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Sean Bean and Liv Tyler". No mention was made of any of the hobbit actors, even Elijah Wood!

I sincerely hope that this bias towards the more famous cast members (Sean Bean is a big star here) doesn't mean that cinema-goers will arrive in December for FOTR and wonder who the little guys are.
