Weathertop

The Weathertop scene from the recent trailer with the Nazgul advancing on the hobbits seems a bit staged and corny. I've always had some trouble with that scene in the book, because the Nazgul totally had Strider and the hobbits at their mercy, and the One Ring virtually in their grasp, and then they inexplicably run off. Gandalf's subsequent explanation never quite rang true for me. Does anyone else have comments about the Weathertop scene?
