Gandalf Was a Maia Spirit

Gandalf was a Maia spirit, once named "Olorin". He was chosen as one of the "Istari" or "Wizards" that were sent to Middle Earth. The elves knew him as Mithrandir but to the other inhabitants he was   known as Gandalf or Grey Pilgrim and to the Dwarves, he was called, Tharkun. The elven ring of power he wears is "Narya" the ring of fire, and was given to him by the Elf Lord Cirdan.
