Eventual TV Series
John R.

In his Forward to LotR, J.R.R. Tolkien admitted to one mistake in the book: it wasn't long enough.

There is certainly enough material in LotR to write many more books. Not to mention all the background stories in the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. Ever see that shelf in the book store filled with all those Star Trek novelizations?

Which leads me to wonder whether, if the first movie is successful, someone might try to turn Lord of the Rings into a syndicated TV series, like Star Trek or Xena.

Assuming it is done properly - which is a very, very big assumption, of course - a Lord of the Rings TV series could be a smash hit generating big profits. Which is the name of the game.

Would the Tolkien estate get on board with a TV series if the first movie is successful? Would long suffering purists of the novel (ahem, like me), watch any of it?
