Tolkien’s Masterwork––Available for the First Time in a One-Volume Paperback Edition

The Lord of the Rings

By J.R.R. Tolkien

~Soon to be an epic motion picture trilogy

from New Line Cinema~

"One hundred years after J.R.R. Tolkien’s birth, his legendary creations––Gandalf and Bilbo and Frodo Baggins––still thrive in Middle-earth and on bookstore shelves."

––Boston Globe Magazine

"Among the greatest works of imaginative fiction of the twentieth century."

––Sunday Telegraph

"The English-speaking world is divided into those who have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and those who are going to read them."

––Sunday Times

The three parts of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings––The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the Ring––are available for the first time in a one-volume paperback edition (Houghton Mifflin; June 30, 1999). This edition is the definitive setting of the original text; it also contains six maps of Middle-earth. One of the best-loved epics of our time, The Lord of the Rings tells of Frodo Baggins’ perilous journey across the realms of Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, deep inside the territories of Sauron, the Dark Lord. With Gandalf the Wizard, Gimli the Dwarf, Legolas the Elf, and the other hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam, Frodo must foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

Since its first publication in the 1950s, The Lord of the Rings has been loved by more than fifty million readers worldwide, becoming, as Tolkien envisioned, a living "myth."
