Rohan-197 delivered this news to TheOneRing.com in their chat room:

"I've got such great news... Seems casting for extra's will be finished in two weeks. I've been to the auditions. The last, Rohan soldiers, people being the bad guys, the ones close to the camera will be wearing green masks, their movements shot on a blue screen set, and the computer-generated faces added later. Sounds cool if you like stripping down to your underwear to put on some celtic looking rubber."

This is an excerpt from an interview with Billy Boyd (Pippen) that will be in the September 1st issue of the magazine:

“It does sound like a long time when I say it like that,” he agrees. “Still, to play one of the main characters in it, it’s not the kind of thing you don’t do. ‘Oh, I’d rather not play Pippin in Lord of the Rings...’ In fact, I’m trying to think - what else would you rather do, you know? I can’t actually think of another job that I’d rather do."

Scott sent in this answer to a question he asked Michael Deluca:

"I think it'll be end of September for a complete cast list. Winslet's unavailable, I'm afraid. I think she passed on the project due to the length of time it takes."

Here's an excerpt from an article about the tax loophole situation in NZ:
spacer.gif (49 bytes)
Filmmakers, SPADA, the Film Commission and production companies like Communicado, Gibsons and South Pacific Pictures encourage private money into the industry - real money that is at risk; money that's going into productions, creating more work.

But these tax-loophole exploiters aren't operating in that area at all. What they were doing could damage the film industry.

Reiner was reported to have been targeting New Line, the American company that's financing The Lord of the Rings. New Line and Peter Jackson didn't respond to Onfilm's inquiry, but a typical model would involve putting together a tax-sweetened finance package without the producer's or distributor's prior approval. In this scenario, Reiner would then have approached New Line with the money "in his pocket" and a tempting offer to share the extra profits, which would have the effect of reducing New Line's exposure.

No wonder Reiner squealed when Revenue Minister Bill Birch closed the loopholes...

Xtem sent Joram this interesting tidbit:

"Just a little tip off (a little too late it seems), but on Saturday the Lord of the Rings casting crew were back at the New Zealand School of Dance (where they did casting for anyone interested the first time) here in Wellington. Someone I know very well went there for other reasons, and was stopped at the door by a security guard, wanting to know what he was doing there. He answered that he had to do with the school of dance, so they let him through. He came up to this other guy, who asked him ..."are you here for the auditions?"........(the answer was obviously no, because the security guard followed him through and said "oh no, he's a dancer...." he he he) OK.....the auditions have been done, finished and gone by for extras.......so what auditioning would that have been for??? Speculation speculation speculation!"
