Hobbit Featured on "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?"
Matthew Bass

Is it my imagination, or have instances of a Lord of the Rings character being featured on a show like this been increasing lately? Undoubtedly, it must have something to do with the upcoming films. Exciting things are afoot, folks!

While watching the ABC prime-time show "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" tonight, the $500,000 question for the first contestant was to pick a character out of a list of 4 that was not a "Pokémon." The possible answers were:

A) Jigglypuff
B) Frodo
C) Squirtle
D) Pikachu

The contestant used his 50/50 lifeline which eliminated the C and D answers. He then proceeded to stop playing and take home his cash because he couldn't figure the answer. Undoubtedly, all of the Pokémon and Tolkien fans across the country were screaming the correct answer!

The good part came, though, when Regis Philbin (the game show host) walked to his place prepare for the commercial break and stated the following:

"The correct answer, of course, is Frodo ... from The Hobbit."

My brother and I just about died. Honestly, don't these folks do their research before they air? Regis must not be a big Tolkien fan.
