Filming Resumes

Filming Lord of the Rings began again in Wellington last night, this time leaving behind the leafy town belt for sets built in this Hayward' s Hill quarry. Filming will take place mainly at night. Peter Jackson is directing the $260 million trilogy, based on fantasy novels by J R R Tolkien, for American production company New Line Cinema.

Production of the movie was disrupted when sets were washed away by floodwaters near Queenstown two months ago, and New Zealand producer Tim Sanders resigned last week.

British actor Sir Ian McKellen, 61, arrived in Wellington during the weekend to play wizard Gandalf, joining stars Liv Tyler, Sir Ian Holm and Elijah Wood.
