Capital to See Two Gandalfs
Post Reporter

Wellington will soon see two people playing the wizard Gandalf from the
works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Auditions will be held in Wellington today for  the role of Gandalf in a stage show of The Hobbit, to be performed in the capital in September. British actor Sir Ian McKellen arrived here in January to play Gandalf in Peter Jackson's $360 million film version of The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit is prequel to the best-selling trilogy. Gandalf is the only "human" role in the stage show -- most of the other characters are giant puppets. The auditions, also in Auckland yesterday were organised through casting agencies and are not open to the public. The show will also play in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin.
