May 3, 2000Faramir's Casting is
Confirmed
Matthew Bass
It's been confirmed now by several sources, including E! Online and Cinescape,
that David Wehnam is officially in as Faramir.
Here's the scoop from E!
Online:
In a casting shock, it's been confirmed that Australian
actor David Wenham will play the coveted role of Faramir. Wenham, who starred in the
Australian film The Boys but is largely unknown elsewhere, won the role against heavy
competition from Hollywood golden boy (and studio favorite) Ethan Hawke.
For those of you who haven't read your Tolkien, Faramir is
the son of Denethor, who is the Steward of Gondor. Put more simply, he's the son of the
leader of a major portion of the good guys. His role is important.
Upon perusing David Wenham's IMDB entry, one will discover that he was
born in 1966 in Sydney, Australia. His movie career began in 1992. I am not familiar with
most of the movies he has starred in, however.
