Another New Zealand actor has a part in The Lord Of The
Rings, this time as the screen brother to Australian actor Miranda Otto.
Actor Karl Urban, 27, plays Eomer, nephew of King Theoden of
Rohan (British actor Bernard Hill) and the brother of Eowyn, played by Otto.
Urban has appeared in Shortland Street, Xena: Warrior
Princess and Hercules. His film credits include Via Satellite in 1998, and the yet to be
released The Irrefutable Truth About Demons. Both were shot in Wellington.
Another former Shortland Street star, Marton Csokas, is
playing Celeborn, an elf lord, and is the screen husband of Galadriel, to be played by
high-profile Australian actor Cate Blanchett.
Lord Of The Rings spokeswoman Claire Raskind said yesterday
Urban was involved in filming in Tongariro National Park. Filming is due to be completed
in the area this week.
Meanwhile, the search for more movie extras starts this
weekend in Wellington.
Body types in demand for the casting call are tall and
"soldier-like". Elves should have "striking looks, 5ft 10in (1.8m) and a
tall, slim build" while soldier types are "fit, strong men, 5ft 9in (1.75m) and
over".
Auditions take place this weekend between 11am and 3pm at the
NZ Dance and Drama centre in Newtown. |
