Cruelty to Horses on LOTR Sets?

"Lord of the Rings producer Barrie Osborne has been busy dealing with accusations of cruelty to horses, rebutting claims that one broke its back during a trick, and that another was put down after attempts to change its colour with preoxide. Nor is it true that Liv Tyler is so scared of horses that one was shot for its skin to be put over a "contraption". "She`s no horsewoman," says Osborne. "So we made a contraption. But we bought the hide..."

Word on the street says that the one of the horses was sold to the knackers, and they purchased the hide back.
