In the current Entertainment Weekly, Peter Jackson has been named IT
Director for tackling LOTR. TheOneRing.net got the jump on that article:

However! There is another teensy mention of LOTR in a little box dubbed
IT Location: the Pacific Rim. Mission Impossible II was shot in
Australia, The Beach in Thailand and, our fave, LOTR in production in
New Zealand. If you have a copy, check it out. I don't have access to a
scanner otherwise I'd send it in, and of course I've forgotten the page
number (I'm at work right now, otherwise I'd look it up).

Slim pickings, I know, but maybe will satisfy the craving for a minute.
