Wardrobe Hots Up
Sue Fea

Things apparently got a little overheated in the Lord of the Rings temporary wardrobe late yesterday.

The movie trilogy's New Zealand production company, Three Foot Six Ltd, has set up temporary administration headquarters at the centre and storage for dozens of costumes on one of the stadium's basketball courts.

But the Queenstown and Frankton fire brigade were called about 6.45pm yesterday after a large heater being used by the film crew apparently activated a heat detector in the building, a Frankton brigade spokesman said.

The kerosene heater was understood to have been used for drying out the racks of costumes and with yesterday's cool temperatures windows in the building had been left shut.

One appliance from Queenstown and one from Frankton attended.

Lord of the Rings publicist Claire Raskind said it was a false alarm, but the production team welcomed the chance to take a break in the fresh air when the building was evacuated.
