Bubbly Box Office Anticipated This Weekend

Another Christmas Day debut, New Line's Cuban missile crisis drama "Thirteen Days," grossed $103,000 through Wednesday on eight screens in New York and L.A., with a broad expansion set for the Martin Luther King holiday weekend beginning Jan. 12.

"We've been very pleased with the reaction that the press has had," New Line spokesman Steve Elzer said. "And the anecdotal evidence from the past few days is that the picture is playing to younger crowds, in addition to our core older audience. So that bodes well."

New Line also hopes word will spread among the younger demos that the studio plans to tease the trailer for its much-anticipated "Lord of the Rings" prior to showings of "Thirteen Days."
