Los Angeles Lord of the Rings Preview Line Weathers Storm
Jonathan Watson

A midnight rainstorm was not able to dampen the enthusiasm of Tolkien fans in Los Angeles as they lined up at the AMC 14 Theaters in Burbank to be among the first to see the long-awaited "Lord of the Rings" preview trailer accompanying screenings of New Line Cinema's Thirteen Days.

Sponsored by the Tolkien Guild, a consortium of Tolkien fan websites, the Los Angeles line braved the elements thanks to tents and a generous donation of Domino's pizza.

Fans spent the wait listening to a tape of the BBC radio production of "Lord of the Rings," sharing rumors about the films, and signing a copy of the trilogy to be given to director Peter Jackson.

Fans may join the line up until the 12:30 PM showing of "13 Days" today, where the "Lord of the Rings" trailer will be shown both before and after the screening for this special Tolkien Guild event.  Fans who register at the Tolkien Guild table will be eligible for prizes to be raffled in the morning.
