August 29, 2002 Re: Everett V. Plus Rings Everett V you quoted: Matthew 10: 34 reads "Do not think I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword." As people always do they take a literal interpretation of the Bible and say "this is it!". Like the poor people who support capital punishment because in the old testament it says "An eye for an eye...", they tend to skip over every message the new Testament gives us, he without sin cast the first stone... remove the plank from your own eye before pointing out the splinter in anothers. Even the old Testament the books that gave us an eye for an eye... Thou Shalt Not Kill. Removal of life is ONLY Gods perogative. Everett as for you quote, Jesus did not mean He Himself would bring strife, just that He knew human nature well enough that we would kill, main, destroy and argue... like we are now, in His name. He was telling the people how it was going to be. Maybe I am wrong but I gather you tend to believe that love is not enough, that alittle brute force is needed at times. Such an outlook shows too little an appreciation for the power of love. There is no greater power. Appologies to all for diverging from the topic of Lord of the Rings. Which reminds me. Sauron had the nine rings of men, the Nazgul were not wearing them, could this mean he could redistribute them and make a second rank of ringwraiths? Any ideas? Just a thought to spur conversation. Brett C, ok its gonna be your job to take care of north America, you can set up a head quarters, call it say... Carn Dum. Ok I've got eight more rings, anymore takers? Money Fame Power! Could be yours! See you all later :) |
