I have always wondered whether or not Glaurung, the father of all dragons, was a maia or not. it says something about Morgoth taking an evil spirit, and giving it that form. Yet, a maia would be able to take on a form of its own (such as Ungoliant). Maybe Glaurung was just a very weak maia. So, was Glaurung a maia or not? may radagast eat you all...
