September 12, 2002 Fans I really don't think it should matter whether someone has read the books or not. The movie is a fairly accurate (ok, okay, so they skipped over a couple things.) adaption, enought so that those who haven't read the trilogy understand it. The movie is still LOTR, and it was still originally written by Tolkien. So there for, someone who is a fan of the movie is a fan of both LOTR and Tolkien. Just because they don't spend their free time re-reading the trilogy for the umpteenth time doesn't make them any less of a fan. I'm pretty sure that alot of those who rewatch the movie over and over again will finaly say "Gee, this movie kicks butt, I bet the books do too." and pick up the books and read them. And then they will see how much they missed out on. And honestly, when it gets to the point that you start sticking your nose up at those "fan wannabees", it gets stupid. Who cares as long as they like it!? |
