Gandalf Falling Into Shadow...

In response to Bob The Builer; you say that Gandalf had a half decent grip on the edge of the Bridge of Khazad Dum right? Well he did, but the reason that he couldnt climb back up is because the balrog had a grip on Gandalf's leg with his fiery whip. Gandalf could not have broken free of the grip because the balrog was falling down into the shadow at an extremely fast pace causing Gandalf to go with him.
I hope this clears up any questions.
