Agree That Justin T. Was Off Base

A few other things to note about the elves involvement in the time of Lord of the Rings. In the appendix where it has the chronology notice that Lothlorien repelled three assaults on its borders before the ring was destroyed. Sure Lothlorien didn't bear the brunt of the attack like Minas Tirith did, but it is definately an impressive stand to hold off three assaults where Minas Tirith would have been in dire straights were a second assault to have been launched. The Evles of Mirkwood undoubtedly helped defend Dale and the Lonely mountain which was also attacked before the ring was destroyed, not to mention were involved in fighting the evil that resurged in Mirkwood. Plus don't forget the elven rings. Boromir I beleive was the one who asked in the council what could be said about the three rings and if they were active. He was advised that they were all doing their parts to resist the power of Sauron, but that they were not rings for conquest, but for understanding and preservation. So Elrond and Galadriel were also using their rings to oppose Sauron.

Now a litle speculation that I posted once but never got any comments on. About Lothlorien being attacked three times. Galadriel mentions how Saurn suspects but doesn't know she has one of the three rings. It seems to me that Lothlorien was attacked multiple times in an attempt by Sauron to capture that ring. If the one could not be found, certainly one of the three would have been a great increase to his power and dread. I tend to think that Sauron was pretty convinced that a ring dwelt in Lothlorien, and was trying to capture it. It also seems to me that it was the power of her ring and the elven resistance that allowed them to fight off three assaults. Comments anyone?
