More on Legolas
Rune of Mirkwood
I love reading all the essays written here! Such valuable and interesting points of interest!
If anyone is interested, I have read a number of times that the age of Legolas is 2,931 years. I recently purchased the Visual Companion Book to the Fellowship of the Ring and it is beautifully detailed in large photographs from the movie and written by Jude Fisher, born in Cornwall and now resides outside of London. She is a book publisher for 20 years now, has a Master's Degree in Scandinavian studies, specializing in Old Icelandic texts, and has published four novels. Both the Two Towers and The Return of the King are also going to be published as Visual Companions (all are hardcover and about $14.00 on Amazon.com).
On her page on Legolas, I learned more about this wonderful, elvin Prince. His name is actually elvish for "Greenleaf", whereas I thought is was "a last name". In the scene where the Nine Walkers are passing on the dangerous pass of Cahadras, Legolas is seen walking tall and above the snow whereas the others are struggling in waist deep snow. This is because "the Elves has the preternatural aility to move more lightly across the ground than the other peoples of Middle-Earth; Legolas is able to run swiftly and effortlesly across teh roughtest terrain, barely leaving footprints even upon new-fallen snow". He is also a Master of woodcraft, and the knives he carries are considered "white knives" - deadly weapons, "for the Elves make the keenest of all blades in Middle-Earth". I would highly recommend purchasing this wonderful book, and the others to follow!
