September 29, 2002 To Roger Re: Which Are the Two Towers OK not to say you are compleatly wrong but again we hit the allegory subject which Tolkien strickly said these books were not. Plus being asked at several speaches if his books had any reference to England during the war and/or its political system. Tolkien Said that it should not be taken as anything of the sort. Butif it were to be put as such i would think you have a point. But i believe that orthank would have been more the industrial center, it is black it changes dramatically into a fortressed machiene from a beautiful garden, also i would then have to say Minas Tirith would be intellectual capital, seeing as it is white and holds the great scrolls that held knowledge of the past. But i just see it as Orthanc And Barad-Dur and Minas Tirith, nothing more. Thinking otherwise sort of takes the fun out of it. |
