Reply to Danny's Speculation and Quirks' Dismay

Not to argue, but when the ring was destroyed Sauron was as well. In the appendix you quote, the very sentence before,"Three times Lorien had been assailed..." begins,"After the fall of the Dark Tower and the passing of Sauron the Shadow was lifted from the hearts of all who opposed him, but fear and despair fell upon his servants and allies." This would say to me that the attacks on Lorien were the minions of Sauron lashing out blindly in rage and fear.

Also in reply to Quirks many complaints about the first film, many well founded. It has been a running theme in this forum that Tolkien was trying to give Britain there own Mythology. If you look at all other myths throughout the world every story has been told many times in many ways, sometimes with little in common save characters. I think it is an important part of mythology to have the many tellings of the same story so that when the overly scientific minded look for definitive answers there is rarely one and you are forced to just accept the tale. I simply look at the film as a retelling of the tale, not Tolkien making a movie but Peter Jackson telling a story originally told by Tolkien. Though I never met Tolkien, I'd like to think he would agree. Any thoughts anyone?
