October 4, 2002 Responses First of all, thank you, Fingolfin, for your correction. I just got a little mixed up. To Danny, you make some good points on Faramir going instead of Boromir. I agree that if it weren't for the capture of Merry and Pippin, the Ents wouldn't have stopped Saruman from defeating Rohan. Then, Minas Tirith would have seen an army of Uruk-hai approaching, rather than the Rohirrim. This would mean the death of Aragorn, Gimli, and yes, impossible as it may seem, Legolas. Sauron would have more time to take a look around his own country, and he may have noticed those two pesky hobbits stumbling towards Mt. Doom. Even if Frodo and Sam had made it, the eagles probably wouldn't have rescued them, and if they did, they would return to find a very bleak world. Boromir, of course, tried to prevent the capture of Merry and Pippin, and if he had succeeded,... Iluvatar himself once said something about how if you try and mess up the music (like Morgoth did), it would only lead to more beautiful things to happen. Because of Saruman's decision to send a troop of Uruk-hai after Merry and Pippin, Sauron was defeated.
