Role of the Elves
Peter D.

Just thought I´d comment on the whole Role-of-the-elves-in-the-war-of-the-ring-debate. The elves of Lorien repulsed three major attacks from (presumably) Dol Guldur - (love that name by the way), and subsequently sacked Dol Guldur itself during or just after the War of the Ring. As far as I remember Thranduil cleared the northern parts of Mirkwood.
If this had not happened, wether on the run or victorious, Gondor and Rohan (and the rest) would have a considerable enemy unfought on their flank, and especially the rohirim would probably have returned to a land in ruin.
So, credit where credit is due - the elves played their part, even in the autumn of their lives in Middle earth.
