April 12, 2002 In Response OK, firstly, I never denied that Arthur did not exist, in fact, I strongly believe that Arthur as a person did exist, and many people much more expert in the subject than I have told me that he most probably did. All I said was the Arthur is not an English myth; and I hold by that, King Arthur and the Knights of the round table is not English, neither was the real Arthur English.... at the time when he was around he belonged to a culture called the Wessex culture, which was massivly distinct from any other culture in the British Isles. How does this relate to Tolkien??? I said that Tolkien's main aim in writing his Middle-earth series was to invent a mythology for England.
