About the Seeing Stones
Silmarien

Rune of Mirkwood, there were total of seven palantiri, but as far as I can remember, the rest of the stones were lost by the third age. So I don't think that they were left away from the movie..
Here's something that I can come up with:
One of the stones was in Osgiliath, one in Amon Sûl, one in Anor*, one in Minas Ithil* and one was in Orthanc*. (those three with this thing*, were the ones that still were at the third age) Then one in Annúminas, and I guess the 7th one was the Elendil-stone, that was in a tower that Círdan and elves of Lindon took care of. Elendil-stone wasn't in contact to the other palantirí, it looked only to the sea. Elendil himself had put it there, so he could watch to the lost Eressëa. And then in Silmarillion, there is said that there were some kind of Great stone, that still was in the tower of Tol Eressëa, and that Elendil always tried to see it...
Tell me if I'm wrong..
