Where is Frodo?
Fluidshaggy
I hate to do it but, I have held back as long as I could. I'm going to have to throw my two cents worth into this whole religion/tolkien "thing".
It seems everone wishes to call Aragorn or Gandalf a Christ figure. In my mind, the most obvious person in the tale would be little Frodo Baggins. He is the one with the cross(or in this case ring) to bare. He knows it will probably kill him and in many ways doesn't wish to bare it yet, he realizes it is the only way for good to ovecome evil. I welcome argument on this point.
As far as chrisianity vs. other beliefs, I embrace all people who wish to do good. As far as the whole "No one comes to the Father except by me" excuse for hating and/or degrading other consider the possibility that it is by his sacrifice that we can come to the father. I consider myself a christian and yet I do not believe in a god that would not take the like of Ghandi into his arms. The new testament and the new covenant are built on love and acceptance. Remember the word christian comes from the root: of/like Christ. Perhaps it would be better if some tried harder to be LIKE Christ instead of spouting random pieces of scripture to make themselves feel better than others. Once you decide you are better than others you have failed. God sent Christ to be one of us not better than us, to show us what we could be. Sorry to preach, won't happen again.
