October 15, 2002 Walking a Lonely Road... In the ending song, sung by Enya, she was write in her words for the Fellowship. Whenever I view The Lord of the Rings movie, I keep watching the characters and think to myself, “what if I had to leave my home forever, as they did?” I look at Boromir and how tragically he died; it always makes me sad, along with the loss of Gandalf at The Bridge. Boromir was so proud and loved his city of Gondor so much. I look at Frodo and Sam and how they wanted to go back home to the Shire, after Rivendall. I especially ponder with Legolas, since I know he has been around for a very long time in the world! But in watching the movie, and I always seem to catch something new each time I watch it .. is also kind of neat to view his expressions when he comes into new places for the first time; like Mines of Moria, Lothlorien, and sailing down the Great River to Parth Galen. I also think about how he is a Prince, next in line to his throne in Mirkwood. His father sent him to represent his realm and people. Yet, they all travel so far away from their homes and run into so many dangerous situations. I wonder if Legolas misses his home and wishes he never came…or if his father, Kind Thranduil, wonders if he himself is the last of his nobility to reign. It’s kind of sad to think about all the Elves coming to “the end of their time”. If the Ring was not destroyed, the Elves would be. If the Ring is destroyed, they loose their powers and have to “diminish to the West”, leaving all they worked for behind and all that they loved in their beautiful lands (ie. Rivendall and Lothlorien). But such sacrifices, bravery, courage, and dedication within The Fellowship has made these stories for us to enjoy and talk about, no? |
