An Oscar Well Deserved
Curious George
Just another quick note on some things I liked and noted about the film.
The imagery was beatiful. The scene where Gandalf decides to leave the Shire, Frodo tells him "I don't understand.." there is a shot from Frodo's view and the chandalier is creating a distorted profile of Gandalf's face, and then he replies "neither do I." That shot goes particularly well with the overall meaning of the scene.
In the scene where Frodo trips and rolls down the mountain in the snow, the Ring falls off and just before Boromir picks it up there is a shot of the Ring and it is huge. It's the biggest thing on the screen. Was this, perhaps something that the Ring intended? I think this imagery is showing how even though the Ring is small in physical appearance, its will to escape and return to its master is larger and more powerful (in that moment at least) than any of the fellowship can withstand. In that moment the Ring begins to ensnare Boromir even more so than it had in Rivendelle. I think that this particular oscar was well deserved, and I hope that the next installment does just as well (I'm hoping for best picture this time, because we all know it certainly deserved it last year). Did anyone else end up hating "A Beautiful Mind" simply by the fact that it won over Lord of the Rings? ...Just curious...
