Food and the Fellowship

The topic of food was just an observation on the long road and days the Fellowship made to reach Lothlorien, where they were able "to rest". Also brought up was one of the gifts of Galadriel, who gave them "lembas" to eat to sustain them, so we know that yes, somewhere along the way, without seeing it in the movie, they did eat. We know Sam cooked and that the Hobbits loved to eat! We see him cooking a lot of goodies at Hollin. Sneezing isn't essential to "sustain Life"...but eating is!
