October 21, 2002 The High Pass I just wanted to add on to Brett C's theory. There are a few other problems with the high pass. First, in order to get south after crossing the pass the company would go right by Dol Guldor and Southern Mirkwood, which would not be a place to bring the ring. If they tried to go around (through Mirkwood and approach from the north) it would take way too long (similar to the problem Gandalf has with going all the way south, past the White Mountains, and then due east) and the lands north of Mordor are barren, and therefore difficult to hide in. |
