October 22, 2002 It Always Comes in Pints I just got finished with "The Hobbit"[ for the fourth time]. When the dwarves arrive for "The Unexpected Party" one of them asked for some beer. To quote "Bilbo went to the cellar to fetch a PINT of beer". In L.O.T.R. when the Gaffer said "That was proper 1420" you may remember that he was drinking a PINT. The reason for Merry's and Pippen's excitment at the larger size was probably hobbits that had not come of age were not allowed to have pints. To save the trouble of responding why Frodo or Sam didn't have pints, they probably just wanted to sulk and get something in their bellies. |
