The Mines of Moria
Dora-chan

A question about the Mines of Moria:

Were the Mines of Moria first built by elves, and then taken over by dwarves and orcs? If Moria had been built by the dwarves and if the dwarves had lived there for centuries, then why is the password into the mines in Elvish? (ie. "Speak 'Friend,' and enter") It just doesn't make much sense.

~something a friend and I pondered on when we re-watched the LOTR dvd.
