November 5, 2002 Can Someone Advise on This One? I watched the Fellowship agan, for the 50th time probably (never get tired of it, especially learning so much about the history and characters from the books and this Forum...wonderful!!!) - anyway, there is a scene that really makes me wonder....and that is when the Nine Companions are running for their lives, towards the Bridge of Khazad-Dum, when the Moria Orcs are just coming out of the walls! At the time they are surrounded, and it seems there is no way out...has anyone noticed that (1) there is a great hesitation on both the Fellowship making a first move (which probably would of meant immediate death for everyone...so, they didn't move at all!) - but WHY DID all the Orcs just stand there? For sure, it would of been easy enough for them to overtake the Fellowship (thank god, they didn't!!! and of course, there would be no more story...) But why I asked this is...back at Balin's Tomb, there was no hesitation before on those Orcs breaking down the doors and wanting to just flood themselves in and kill everyone there! Yet, in this scene, it always bothers that there is this short wait...and then, the awlful Balrog howls, like a command to say, "They are mine"! Does anyone have any comments on this scene? I would be interested in reading them...thank you, and
