Happy Little Elves
Brett C.

Mithril Miner, if you check out the extended DVD in the Lorien scenes you will see a much more 'human' Galadriel, laughing and being a good deal softer and less psychotropic than she was edited down to in the feature.

Incidentally, the extended release also goes a ways to redeem another character in my eyes, namely Legolas. I know that he is a favourite character of many movie goers, and I was also very impressed by Orlando Bloom's performance, but in all honsty he is the Fellowship movie character least like his literary counterpart. In the books, Legolas is often cheerful to the point of annoyance, as when the group are snowbound on Caradhras. In the theatre release Legolas does not smile once; he spends most of his time looking intense and offering dire warnings of impending doom, which sadly no one listens to until it is too late. It was not until the new DVD that I saw him genuinely smiling, speaking to Gimli about Galdriel's parting gift to the dwarf while leaving Lothlorien.
