Goblin Tactics
Brett C.

I think Razors is right in saying the goblins holidng off when the Fellowship was surounded had mostly to do with cinematic suspence. I have to say when I first saw the movie and just how many there were I found myself wondering, 'How in blazes are they going to get out of this?' I think little things like that actually helped me enjoy the movie more, because knowing the story means a literal retelling would preclude any surprises or suspense. If people seek deeper meaning, I suggest that you consider scenes like the one in Saving Private Ryan, where the Amercian soldiers suddenly stumble into a group of Geramn troops in a house and everybody grabs their guns. Everyone is screaming, high on adrenalin, but no-one is willing to be the first to pull the trigger at point balnk range. Or it could even be an obtuse homage to the scene in the Chamber of Marzabul, altered to give the Troll more screen exposure, where the Orc chief charges the Fellowship and spears Frodo. It says his followers were crowded in the doorway to watch - desperate to see the outcome, but too fearful, after the pasting they'd just gotten, to join in.

Sincere thanks also to Rune and Magic Fire for your kind words. [I will have to put off running any more errands for Annatar until my head deflates enough to fit under my Wraith hood.] I am very impressed with all the postings I read, whether they raise questions or answer them, and am drooling in anticipation of the debates to come when TTT hits the screens.
