Wormtongue and the Palantir

Lorecryer, Wormtongue threw the Palantir (which I suspect, to him, was just a handy weapon), from an upper window in the Tower. It struck the railing on the lower balcony (on which Sarauman had been standing) & rolled down the steps to where Pippin retrieved it. The company speculated that the reason the Palantir missed was that Wormtongue could not make up his mind which he hated (& wanted to hit) more, Sarauman or Gandalf, therefore his aim hit the rail which stood between them
