Blemishes Continued....
Gwaihir
This is part 2 of the first post I had submitted entitled "Blemishes." I had thought of a couple of other things that dissapointed me about TTT. Again, I apologize for the double post, but my lunch hour had expired before I could finish.
The Score: Almost inexistant in this film. Where FOTR was incredible, this film (with the exception of Rohan's theme) was flat as a male falsetto. I took special notice of FOTR - the nice moments in which the music blended into the images...yet in this movie it only does so with the new theme given to the audience for Rohan. Too bad, I don't think an oscar for best score will be awarded this year.
The Battle: As much as I loved the Helm's Deep sequence, it was just a bit too much. I would have rather seen more of the Ents marching to Isendgard and battering the tower of Orthanc, or some other chapters that were cut from the film. Now with the "Voice of Saruman" and the "Palantir" AND "Shelob" all moved to ROTK, I fear that PJ is going to have too much story to tell in too little time. Especially if he hopes to make the Seige of Gondor just as lengthy as Helm's Deep. It doesn't really make sense to me though. Seems like Helm's Deep was only 12 pages long in the book - or something like that, in comparison to the Battle at Minas Tirith.
I honestly hope that PJ will take into consideration the wonderful depth of Tolkien's characters (can't wait to see Denethor), rather than focusing so much on action-paction, and letting slip through his fingers the very essence of the story that we have all come to love.
