Re: Lughaidh
Satinder
Thank you for your comments on my recent posting, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your views, but in light of them I feel compelled to comment.
With regards to Aragorn's scream, I stick by my view that it was out of place, cheesy, and demeaning to the character. People get injured on sets all the time - does that mean we should include everything that happens to them?
'The whole Aragorn is Dead Sideplot' - you mentioned 'Aragorn came back a changed man with a renewed sense of purpose'. How exactly did you assume this? Perhaps you can explain how his views were different prior to falling of the cliff, and then afterwards? Going back to your original point, death and resurrection issues are commonplace in literature, and you didn't find it out of place at all. Well, I did. It is indeed commonplace in literature, but this is a MOVIE we are talking about here, based on a BOOK beloved by millions of fans. Everything Tolkien did, he did it for a reason; his book has been widely acclaimed for this. You know the old saying - 'if it isn't broken, then don't fix it'. You say you did not notice any pi**ed off real fans in the audience? No comment - do u seriously believe that people weren't annoyed by this?
The laughing at near death orc? Shall we put it to the vote?
Your next point was based around the wallop Eomer recieved by the guards. You say this was another well - used vehicle for telling the story (demonstrating Wornmtongue's hold over Theoden and Rohan). Yes, you guessed it - I still disagree and hold by my views. I think it was already as clear as sunshine just how much hold wormtongue has over Rohan and Theoden - just look at the way he commands Theoden when Gandalf approaches. So I still put the question out - why would PJ need to upset the TRUE fans, for reasons I have already stated?
However, thank you for clearing up that last point about Arwen and her death - I will, indeed, read the appendices. Perhaps I can give you some reading too - that being my name, that way you will be able to spell it.
I mean that with all due respect ofcourse :)
