February 21, 2003 The Scourge and the Havens It seems to me that the movie has been a little weak with Frodo's Character. Are we forgetting what we missed in the downs(FOTR, movie)? Not only do these two chapters show how much the Hobbit's have grown, they also show how the great fall and are created. Why does Frodo take charge in the clean up of the shire and then, sort of disappear? How can he name off the children that Sam hasn't had yet?(Grey Havens)Why does he leave with the Elves?Simple. He has grown beyond himself. Not only is he wounded in a way that even Gandalf is not sure the full extent(FOTR,book), but he has obviously developed some form of forsight(accurate naming off of Sam's brood before they are born)Not to mention all this glowing he's been doing(TT,book,ROTK,book.)One has to wonder if the citizens of middle earth, in say 3000 years, when the next great peril comes along and the Lords of the West again send someone to face the Great Evil(Apped. A), find not a wizard, but a small wise hobbit roving about guiding the defence. |
