Faramir Was Alright
Tomas

When I saw TTT the first time I was upset as you all of how different the character of Faramir was from the book.

But then I got home and started thinking. The reasons for dragging Frodo and co all the way to Osgillath are probably justified. The Osgillath scenes has to be in this movie to give a background for conversations in RTK between Faramir and his father.

The reason for making Faramir as greedy and unkind as he is portrayed in the movie is a way to make the ring have a stronger effect on people. They had to make the ring more effective as a source of temptation in the movie in order for it to be noticed. In the book the ring is very subtle in its way to "ensnare" people. In the movie there isn't time for this, there you have to be direct in order to be noticed by the viewing audience. I think that the unkindness was of Faramir was a way of showing the desperation of the ring and its strengh to influence its surroundings. In the next movie I think we will see the Faramir that we all love and the power of the ring will be noticed by the difference in him from in this one. When I come to think of it he does finally win over its temptations and thus shows that can resist it more than his brother.

I know you will slaughter this submission, but wait until the next movie and I will hopefully for all of us be proven right.
