Is any official comment known from Peter Jackson or associates on the reasoning behind the changes they made in the script? It is very interesting to read the debates and learn about all the explanations people come up with, but I would really like to hear it from the people responsible. Because perhaps (perhaps..) they have a convincing story why they thought it necessary to 'spice up' a phenomenal tale which took the writer some 20 years to write and think through...
